Welcome UT Arlington IEEE S-PAC 2008
An S-PAC is a half-day seminar at which national and local engineering professionals speak about issues facing engineers in today’s workplace. The purpose of the event is to expose young engineers to these issues. S-PACs encourage students to become more adept, professionally incisive and clearly aware of their responsibility to society by permitting learning from the varied experience of successful engineers. As a result, S-PACs are an effective vehicle to transmit the professional awareness that enhances the technical education individuals receive in engineering school.
Date: 11th April 2008
Location: Rosebud Theater in the UC, UT Arlington
The topics covered at our S-PAC are
- Women in Science and Engineering: The myths and biases of discrimination in the workplace are examined, along with many of the covert systemic inequities present in our social structure and enculturation process. Positive actions will be suggested for making the workplace more inviting for all of us.
- The Engineering Profession: Expectations vs. Reality: The expectations of graduates with respect to what their careers will be like can be very different from the realities faced in a professional working environment. This presentation will explore those differences.
- Getting Smart about Intellectual Property: Engineers, early in their careers, will become exposed to and contribute to the intellectual property of their companies. This presentation considers the various forms of intellectual property including patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.
